Reverend Timotheus Sauer |
Pastor “Tim” Sauer was born in Washington County, Wisconsin, February 12, 1863, the son of Pastor John Sauer. He was an 1883 graduate of Northwestern College, also serving as a physical education director. Graduating from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1886, he was assigned to the congregations of Elkhorn and East Troy, Wisconsin. After serving these congregations for 8 years he accepted a call to Trinity.
Reverend Sauer’s physical education background served him well during nearly three strenuous years of keeping the mission congregation together in an area recently devastated by fire. While the exertion left him physically exhausted, we give God the glory for sending us the right man at the right time.
He was soon called to serve the St. Paul congregation of Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1895. During his pastorate the congregation grew to such an extent that two Sunday services were needed as well as a new larger church building. Pastor Sauer served with deep humility and sincere devotion to the cause of Christ in Appleton for 46 years and retired January 31, 1941. He died in the faith of the Lord he preached May 21, 1952.
